Drug Intervention in New York: What Four Weeks Can Do for a Family

Most people picture an intervention as one tense afternoon. In reality, the afternoon is the last step. The real work happens in the weeks before it, inside the family.

A drug intervention in New York follows the same path we use across our region. We coach the family first. Then, when everyone is ready, we bring the loved one to a clear choice.

Four Weeks With One Family

Recently, a mother reached us through a treatment center. Her 19-year-old daughter had battled addiction and mental health problems for seven years. Several treatment stays had not held.

For four weeks, Jim Reidy, CIP #10266, coached her every single day. She later described how often he reached out:

“He called and texted me sometimes 4 times a day, seven days a week, any time of the day.”

With that support, she stopped paying for the life her daughter’s addiction depended on. It was the hardest thing she had ever done. Still, she was never alone in it:

“When I felt weak or didn’t know what to do or say, he would coach me and tell me exactly what to do.”

Then, on intervention day, Jen McDonough flew in, prepared the family and led the room. By the end, the daughter had packed a bag and agreed to go to treatment. You can read more family stories on our Reviews page.

What Those Four Weeks Look Like for New York Families

Every family is different. Even so, the weeks before an intervention usually follow this shape:

  1. Week one: the full picture. We learn the substances, the history, the risks and who is in the family circle.
  2. Week two: ending the enabling. We help each person stop the rescues, the cash and the cover stories.
  3. Week three: the plan. We pick an accredited treatment program, confirm a bed and prepare every person who will speak.
  4. Week four: intervention day. We lead the room and keep it calm. If the answer is yes, transport begins right away.

Some families need less time and others need more. Either way, nobody gets left to figure it out alone.
