Family Intervention in New Jersey: Healing the Whole House, Not Just One Person

Addiction rarely stays in one bedroom. In a split-level in Cherry Hill or a row home in South Philly, it moves through every room. Before long, everyone in the house is living around it.

That is why a family intervention in New Jersey starts with the family, not the addict. At Addiction Treatment Group, we do not show up with a speech and a van. Instead, we teach the family how to change first. When the family moves, the addiction loses its grip.

A Guide Who Has Been the Problem in the House

I’m Jim Reidy, Certified Intervention Professional #10266. I have led 750+ documented interventions over 15+ years. Families may also know me from A&E’s Intervention, Season 20.

Long before that, though, I was the one my family lay awake over. For years, alcohol and cocaine ran my life. I got sober on March 4, 2006, and I have stayed sober for 20 years.

So when a mother in Toms River tells me she checks her son’s breathing at night, I believe her. I put my own family through that fear. Because of that, I can sit at your kitchen table and speak to both sides of the room.

How a Family Gets Well Together

No intervention is magic. It is a process, and it works when everyone pulls in the same direction. Here is how it works with our team:

  1. We talk first. You speak with me directly, in confidence, about what is happening at home.
  2. We teach the family. Parents, spouses and siblings learn how enabling keeps the addiction comfortable.
  3. We set the boundaries together. Every person agrees on what they will and will not do.
  4. We secure a bed first. A duly accredited treatment program is ready before anyone sits down.
  5. We stay until admission. I remain with your family until your loved one walks through the treatment doors.

The family does not need to be perfect. However, when everyone grows a little, the person struggling feels the ground shift. Then, often for the first time, treatment looks like the only door left open.

Where Addiction Treatment Group Works

We serve all of New Jersey, from Bergen County down to Cape May. We also serve families in Pennsylvania, from Bucks County to Pittsburgh. Across the Hudson, we help New York families in the city, on Long Island and in Westchester.

In each of these places, the steps stay the same. The family heals, the plan holds, and your loved one gets a real shot at recovery.
